affidavits for visitor visa

hi all!

My parents have an appointment in next month so what all afidavits do we have to take. how many affidavits do we have to make as both are applying for visitor visa.

are affidavits are mandatory. cover letter and return letters are those should be done on stamp papers or just letter is enough.
if affidavit is done how much stamp paper we have to take.

I had a question about how long an affidavit of support is valid? I sent one in Jan 2006 for my brother's visitor visa. He got rejected for lack of some docs on his end but is applying again next month. Do I have to send a new affidavit of support?
