  • Visitor visa granted in second attempt.

My parents were granted 10 years multiple visa at the chennai consulate on Marth 15th 2007. Their interview was in English. This was their second attempt. They were rejected the visa the first time with 214 b on Feb 9, 2007. We are two daughter for my parents. I am the younger one and in the US. My elder sis is married with two children in India in the indian army. Me and my husband are working on H1 visa. Since i started working only since a year i had my husband sponser the visa as i dint have my W2's etc.
    following were the questions asked.
    VO: Where are you working?
    Dad: YYYY company
VO: How much salary do u get?
    Dad: Rs 50,000 Per month
    VO: When are you Retiring?
    Dad: Oct 31st 2007.
VO: How many months are you going to visit ? Looking at the invitation: The broker had filled one and half month for Dad and 5 months for Mom.
Dad: For one and half month
VO: Why only one and half month?
Dad: since my leave has been granted for only one and half month.
VO to Mom: How long are you going for ?
    Mom: 5 months.
VO: Why are you going for 5 months ?
Mom: Since my husband doesnt have leave he will go back. But i want to stay with my daughter for few more months, visit all the places and then come.
I guess its always better to give the same # of months for both.
VO to Mom: How many children do you have?
My dad attempted to answer then the VO said : Let your wife answer: My mom was very tensed. She said two daughter. One daughter is Doctor in Indian army and the other in US.
VO : Sorry i can not give you the visa.
Dad: Do you need any further documents:
    VO : No.

During the first time, my parents went through a broker and dint take Affidavit of support. This time i followed this site and carefully sent all the documentation myself. I used the sample re apply letter to the consulate from this site, stating that my Father's mother who is aged 80 lives with them and totally dependant on them. My sister with her two sons and husband live close to my parents in India. The affidafit of support also mentioned all this and about all the family members both my mothers side and fathers side who are india, along with property house etc. I also sent my H1 copies, W2 ( I got my w2 by then) pay stubs( 6 months ). I sent them the sample questions with answers and had them prepare properly this time.
They had their interview at 2.15 PM
The VO this time was an american lady in her 30's and very pleasant.

Dad and Mom both greeted her Good afternoon.
    VO: Smiled:
Dad: handed her the Application, Passports and the covering letters:
VO: So where does you daughter live in the US?
    Dad: In Edison, New Jersey.
VO : Is your daughter working?
    Dad: Yes.
    VO: Where is she working?
Dad: In YYYY company in New York city.
VO: can i have a look at her papers?
Dad: Sure. and he handed her the entire bunch of docs.
Vo: She went over all the documents. Saw my H1 and other papers: and asked my Dad: Read out my name : Is this your daughters? Dad: Yes.
She was very impressed with all the documentation: ( my dad had taken pictures of his family also.
V0: Very nice. So when are you Retiring:
    I am retiring this Oct 31st, 2007.
    VO: oh!! Very soon then?
I had coached my dad to say this exact sentence and he said the same thing.
Dad: Yes though i am going to retire as an employee in Oct 2007, I am going to continue working as a Private consultant and technical advisor for my own company as well as few other companies.
VO: very good. New jersey and New york are very nice places to visit. I hope you enjoy your stay there. Your visa has been approved. You will receive your passport within 3 days.

My parents collected the passports today from chennai office and they got 10 years visa!!!
This site has really helped me a lot. I thank all of you for sharing your experiences and wish you all the best.
