  • Few Questions on Visa application

Hello Member, I am applying for my mother-in-laws' visa and I have a few questions:
    1. She is 49 yrs old (divorced), does she need to fill DS-156 and DS-157 both? or just DS-156...I am confused even though i read the forum.
    2. She had given me the Bar code # on the phone to schedule an appointment for her, how can I send her the DS-156 form if i am filling up online applications for her? Can I fax it or scan it?
    3. Besides filling up the application online, does she need to do anything else in India or just go straight on the date?
    4. As Son-in-law, I sent all my sponsorship paper work, but could the VO ask for my Wife's stubs or work information as well? If yes, could we send the copies via scan or fax it.

Would appreciate if you could send me the answers.

    1. Both DS-156 and DS-157
    2. After you fill up and save the forms you choose an interview date for her and then you print out the application forms and send it to her by post/mail/courier. Choose an appointment date which leaves you enough time to send the papers out by post/mail/courier.
    3. The applicant needs to collect all the documents/photos that she needs to prove her economic/social ties to India and her intention to return. For more information, check out:

    4. The VO can ask where the applicant's daughter works and what her visa status is and the applicant should be able to answer those questions but I think the sponser's papers will be sufficient to show to the VO.

      Question for visa application

Thank you for the reply, but i have 2 last questions...

      1. Instead of mailing her the papers, Can't I scan and email her so she could print out the forms or Originals are required?

      2. Also, I looked at the link you sent me for visitor visa applications- does my mother in law also requires to write a letter to the consulate requesting to grant her visa when I have already sent one from my side? and also she can't write in English, could she write in Hindi?

      Thank You,
      Achopra

        1. Scan will do. But it might not be clear when taking print outs. Also sometime VO might expect a original Signature on the forms.

        2. Yeah she also needs to write a letter - Format is available in this forum.

The application forms are the first thing the VO looks at. I am not sure a printout of a scanned DS156 and DS157 applications with scanned signatures on it or printout of a scanned I-134 sponser-signed affidavit would be accepted by the consulate.

You see, even with every paper in order there are no guarantees when it comes to getting the visa. So why unnecessarity take the risk of rejection? If you would like to stay on the safe side, send the originals.

Just like others have said , the copies whether faxed or scanned need to be legible(clear) especially the passport(visa pages) and petition paper. When my mother went for her interview the VO did ask for the
            petition document.
