  • Sequence of events in the Consulate

    Hello all,

I have applied for B2 visa for my father and he is attending the interview in 1 week. I would like to know the sequence of events from the time he reaches the consulate. It would be great if somebody could let me know so that I can infrom him. I want to know what forms needed to be submitted where and with or without the passport?

    Thanks!

Please post the name of the consulate. If you booked an interview through the vfs site then the neccessary docs that is required are quite clear in the forms that you should have downloaded or that were mailed
    to you.

My dad will be going to the Chennai Consulate. I have already prepared all the papers....I only want to know what happens after he gets in line for the interview process......Which papers are given prior to the interview and which are carried in by him etc...

        Hi,

This is according to my knowledge the sequence of events at the Chennai Consulate:

You would arrive a little early (atleast 15 min and definitely more) at the consulate. You will be lead to a VFS counter first. Here you will be asked for:
        Visa appointment letter
        Filled and signed DS156 form
        Filled DS157 (if applicable)
You do not have to hand in the passport here.
All the other documents (sponsor documents as well as visitor documents remain with you).

You will be seated in a waiting queue. (I am not clear if they call out the serial number on your appointment letter here or not) but you will lead by a person to one of the available counters. You will asked for your passport and other documents here.

After the interview, if the passport is retained by the consulate officer then the visa is being issued. Else it will be handed back to you immediately.

Also, no plastic covers or bags are allowed inside the consulate. So two convenient folders to carry all the documents would be advisable.

        Hope this helps.
