  • Why they give 10 year B2 visa??

I have heard of several cases where the VO rejects the visa if the duration of visit is long ( around 6 months ). They reject the cases based on immigrant intent saying what why you need to stay in USA for such a long time. If they want B2 visa travellers to go only for tourism for a short duration then why do they give visa's for 10 years?? why not give them visa for a year or so and then let them re-apply later if needed? I don't see the logic in a 10 yr multiple entry tourists visa.

I know that at the port of entry the I-94 is valid only for a few months but even then why allow the tourists a 10 year time frame to use there visa??

On one side they appear to be very generous to grant the 10 yr visa and on the other side they reject cases where applicant does not even want to visit more than a few months.
    Any opinions??

    Elementary, My Dear need_b2!

Less work and crowd at the embassy. The VOs and folks at the embassy are not masochists. Why un-necessarily bother good people that have clean records and make them come to the embassy every two-three years for a B2, go through a hot boiler plate experience, when they simply want to visit their relatives in the US and return? Once in 10 years is a reasonable trip to the consulate, IMHO.

      My dear Suki_Sheik,
I agree, It certainly is less work and less pain for VO's to reject legit cases based on instict. And certainly good people can visit USA again and again between ten years but why do other good people get denied based on the argument that you are going for a long time...absurd..
Less work for VOs but more pain to applicants. Not so elementary as you think.

only because they are not able to prove their intention to return to the VO's full satisfaction.

the VOs treat all applicants as prospective immigrants and it is the applicants who are able to prove their ties to their home country and thus their intention to return who get the visa.

some cases are naturally placed under the scanner more often by virtue of their situation...for e.g. if all the applicant's children are in the US or if the applicant is a young adult. they just need to try to provide more concrete evidence of their intention to return.

so yes, those applicants do endure more pain...but the VOs probably would say that no pleasure comes without pain.

          smohanty, thanks for the post.
I agree with you on the screening process VO uses.
My point is why give a visa valid for ten big years when the applicant is just a tourist and can stay in USA only 6 months at a time?? Why not give say 3 or may be 5 years valid visa? why can tourists get away with so much ease with the visa process as apposed to other visa categories?

Why somebody gets a 1 year tourists visa and other gets a 10year?

            Anti ??!!

            Dear friend,

Why are you being so anti? Why are you against people getting a longer period visas? Please be happy for those who get long time frame visas, some day you'll be showered with good things too.

OK, here's the logistics. AMCON used to mostly give only one entry six month valid visitor visa.

This caused a lot of problems and hard ships to family members and/or tourists who wanted to come to the U.S. every year for a short term.

No money making business person or high income salaried person can take a year's vacation. They can hardly take a few weeks off, come to U.S., tour around a few places only to return to the country and see the other places.

If you know America, it's a huge country, which takes more than five to seven visits to cover short term vacations right from Disney in Florida to cruises in Alaska.

Now about the family members. Many come for a few months, from 2 to 4 in summer to spend time with their family and at the same time also tour around the country.

All these people had to go through a lot of hardships to go to the consulate every year to get their visas, not to mention spending time and money. Remember, a lot of people have to travel within their country of origin too, just to visit AMCON to apply for their visas.

Additionally, many high spending tourists, business people who came with their families, made it clear to AMCON that they will exclude U.S. from their list of places to visit which may cause economical constraints to the country.

Please just be positive and live your life.

Best wishes to all and your families.
