cover letter

Hi,
My parents are going together for visa appointment in the next week. Do they have to carry 2 different cover letters or one is enough. And if one is enough do both of them has to sign in one cover letter. plz let me know.

The head of the family (father) should sign the cover letter, only one is necessary.
