  • Parents up for interview next week, both offsprings here in US

    Hi,

I know this is a typical case for discussion in this forum. My sister and I are the only offsprings for my Parents and both of us live in the US (Sister - Past 7 months and I - Past 19 months) and under these circumstances, I am sponsoring my Parents' B2. I am here on L1 working for an India based IT company while my sister is here in an H4 (My brother in law working for an India based IT company as well but here for a cumulative period of 4 years)

    I have the following questions:

    1. Should my parents carry the H1B pettition / visa documents of my Brother in law ?? Remember I am the only one who is sponsoring this trip of theirs.

    2. Should my Parents voluntarily disclose my sister's whereabouts ?? Shoud they do so only if specifcally asked ?

    3. In the DS156 form, since for the lack of space, I wasn't able to fill in my Sister's details, that she is a dependent here. Mostlty to do with there is just a single field to fill Q37 for both Son and Daughter. I know DS156 can be corrected anytime before the interview, so have just filled in about myself- stating I am working.

    4. I know this website doesn't support malpractices, however for practical purposes, I have heard many people under this scenario do not talk about the other offspring in the US. Will an answer like 'My Daughter is married and settled as a House Wife' be suffcient to answer any question related to my sister ?? I haven't mentioned her name in any of the invitation letters I prepared.

    5. If you advise to tell the entire background of my sister for Q4 above, should something like my Brother-in-law is a temporary Worker there on a specific project, working for the Indian company, on an onsite assignment currently. None of us here have any GC pettion pending, we havent aplllied for one.

    6. I saw a post from BanuM today about organizing the documents in different files and tabs. Can anyone let me know the best way / order the documents within a file. I have suggested my Parents the following

    1. One file / folder for Sponsor Docs (from me)
    2. One File / folder for my dad's documents
    3. One file / folder for my mom's documents
    4. An additional folder to have the duplicates, additional documents like the original property bond documents and spill-overs from the first Counter at the Consulate.

    7. The documents that they should be carrying related to my sister is:
    1. The Birth Certificate
    2. The Passport Copy all pages

is there anything else, she should be carrying considering she is not the sponsor. Once again the answer to the question hinges on the answer to Q4.

The interview is in Chennai Consulate on Monday (11/5), your responses will help get prepared in a great way.

    Thanks in advance.

I agree, thumb rule - don't lie. If caught in any way, permanent ineligibility to apply for a US visa is too costly of a price to pay for that.
