My mother got 10 yr visa in 3rd attempt after overstay in prior visit to US

My mother (widow) got 10 yr multiple entry visa in her 3rd attempt at Chennai consulate on Oct 31. I applied her extension of stay beyond 6 months in her prior visit to US in 2004 which was rejected and she left US within 3 weeks after we received the notice from USCIS. (She had only 6 months visa stamped at that time in her passport). After that she attended interviews in 2006 May and December, but they rejected Visa twice on basis of overstay of prior visit. Luckily this time Visa officer satisfied with my mother's answers in Telugu (both VO and translator were ladies) and gave her 10 yr visa, even VO did not looked at any documents that I sent.
My sincere suggestion is, please never apply for extension, we faced lot of emotional struggle for 3 years with my mother's case.

I am glad that she got the visa and that the lesson was learned. Do not file for an extension unless something unexpected and absolutely necessary happens. No extension for tourism, more shopping, daughter pregnant and such.
