I am trying to book an appointment for my Cousin and her husband ( based in the Punjab) and there are no dates available in Punjabi and they need one ASAP her mother is in the last stages of her cancer. I see that a date is available in December for English interviews and the interview will be conducted in English - I take that to mean that a translator will not be made available. Could my cousin and her husband take along their own translator or will the translator not be allowed in to the interview?

Thanks for the reply
I sent an email to the inquiry address and got reply back saying that she does not meet the critieria for emergency appts. and to keep on checking the dates on line.
She has been turned down for a visa in the last 12 months when they were told you will not come back and all you are doing is going over to act as a minder there are people there that can look after her. I don't know if that is the reason why they think she is now ineligible. The help line did not give a reason.

I looked at the eligibility criteria, unfortunately only if the mom dies would she qualify for the emergency criteria to attend the funeral.
I did see a Punjabi appointment for Dec 3 2007 just now.
Get all the medical documents from USA relating to the seriousness of her condition, and the fact that she probably wont last long.
You are not allowed to take an interpretor but if anyone of them is comfortable speaking English, you can opt for English appointment.
Do write a good cover letter for them.
Good Luck.

Senator
Fax your request to your Senator's office. They're very helpful in such cases. I've known at least a few cases, where the Senator's office sent a note to AMCON in India to issue an immediate interview and a VISA.
http://www.senate.gov/ select your state from the drop down on the top right.
You can also contact your representative, but I prefer Senator.
http://www.house.gov to find your local representative. At the top left put in your zip+4.
Remember to FAX your request and not mail. The mail takes a long time to get opened as it goes through stringent security measures after that Anthrax issue.
Good luck.
God bless.Last edited by knowledgeable; 11-15-2007, 01:35 PM.

Hi chaps
Thanks for your time and advice. I notice that depending on which consulates emergency rules you are reading that some of them include critical illness and the Delhi one doesn't.
Unfortunately before I was able to book a date for them - a useless Immigration agency based in Moga went ahead and got them an appointment in Punjabi for Monday Nov 16th (which i had not seen on the system) - which was good but got them two different appointments - so they will be going in separately. And completed the form incorrectly failing to stress the one reason for the trip - but went on about meeting family. She even listed **** email addresses for the both of them. Neither of them have the first clue how to turn on a PC.
All I can do now is hope for the best for both of them - I have told them that they must both show the letters that American Hospital has sent outlining her condition and tell them to ignore what is written on the form.

Well despite the incorrectly completed forms my Cousin and her husband got their visas they are for a year. It does seem that the numerous letters from the hospital attached to their documents were taken note of coupled I think with the site of my cousin completely overcome at the thought of possibly not seeing her mother again made the officer realise that it was a serious case.
Now I have to warn them not to buy one way tickets based on them not quite knowing their return dates. Her husband has to return for work within the next few weeks so he can have a closed ticket but she should book a date but if needed be able to extend it. I just hope they are ready for the cold of Seattle.
I wish you chaps all the best and I hope that circumstances never force me to this site again but if they do I know I will receive excellent advice.
Thank you.
