USA Visa duration

Dear Immihelp,
We r in India, have applied 4 B1/B2 visa to visit our son/daughterinlaw in usa. For this we had taken useful help from ur site – thanx so much 4 that. We appeared interview at Calcutta India and were granted usa visa. But when we received our passports we found that it is for 5 years only, Whereas normally is it granted 4 ten years. Can u pls. find out the reason ?

There is no specific reason. Some people are given 6 months, some 1 year, some 5 years and some 10 years.
