  • Funds for visitor visa

    Hi,

My parents are planning to visit my brother for his graduation day. My dad is retired and my mom is a Central government employee. As my brother cannot sponsor them, my parents have to self sponsor the trip. Please let me know:

    1. What is the minimum amount that needs to be shown in the bank balance for each one of them?(My dad's bank balance is very minimal)
    2. Should the bank balance be consistent for the last 6 months?
    3. Any other alternative way of showing the funds? (They have property worth 40 laks and other assets. Rent is obtained from tenants for thier house)
    4. What are the chances of getting the visa in such a situation?

    Thanks,
    mrs. Rao

Income is more important than assets for self sponsorship. In this case, it is going to be very hard if both of them apply since dad is retired.

    There are no guarantees but it is advisable , only mother should apply . Only mother applying is favourable on two counts;

    1. She can show two strong ties to India; husband and govt job.

    2. She will have to show half the funds than both of them applying.

She will have to take an NOC from her dept. And she should apply only for a short stay like 4 weeks( a leave sanctioning document showing one month leave would convince the officer), stressing that she wishes to boost her son' morale on his graduation day.

For funds, presentation would be key. She will be asked about her income.
She should say her family income( not just her own income but include all sources.. rent, interest , dad's pension etc.) is ----- lacs , so she can afford to go.
Get a CA to prepare a statement showing income from all sources ( salary, dad's pension, deposit interests, rental income) and showing worth of property and other assets( bonds, insurance poicies etc.). make sure she carried evidence of all that.

There is no harm in trying this way. Your bro should send an invitation letter
explaining the reason for her visit and stating that she will be lodging with him
during her stay. He should attach evidence of graduation ceremony and his
passport and visa copies. If possible, a bc copy showing his mother's name.
