  • Interview: Delhi or Mumbai?

First up, thanks for the excellent information on this website and forum. Really, takes out a lot of anxiety if this highly confusing and unpredictable process. In my case, however, as I read more I got more anxious learning that Uncle Sam is not going to be so kind in granting my poor mother a Visitor Visa to come see me and my family. I have been living in the US for last seven years as a Permanent Resident and visit frequently to India. So, my mother was happy since she got to see us twice a year. But I have been after her to come see us in the US before she kicks the bucket becuase she is getting up there. So, after a lot of haggling and pleading, I finally got "will see" from her.

Now, as it turns out, there are a lot of ifs and buts to be ironed out before I ever will see my mother playing with my kids in my home. First thing, she is a widow (a big no no, I gather?). Secondly, she does have property and all in her name but I wonder if that is gonna be enough to please the curious VO? Well, that we will have to see, won't we? Let the day come but I better send her prepared. I doubt though she will take my coaching seriously.

I'm sure I will be asking a lot more questions as I venture into these uncharted waters (for me) but for now I have a quick question. My mother independently lives in her own house in Uttaranchal but currently visting my brother's family in Indore (MP). Now, since my sister-in-law along with her two girls is also applying for the visa, I scheduled the interview for all four of them in Mumbai. So, the question is, for my mother what address should I put in Presently Resides at" in #3 paragraph " That this affidavit is executed on behalf of the following person" area in the i-134?

I would rather say Uttaranchal where she actually lives but does that create any conflict of zone/region? Delhi vs. Mumbai? In other words, can a person living in Uttaranchal or Chennai for that matter be interviewed at Mumbai?

Thanks again for all the help.

First of all thank you for reading information about the visa, before posting your questions. It shows you did your homework.

Second, it will be very hard for your mom to get a visa, she needs to prove ties to her home country, and property alone does not do it... usually a good income or business helps, along with family relationships and dependents.

Third, it is a bad idea for her to apply for a visa along with "sister in law and kids". She needs to apply on her own, nuclear families (mom, dad, kids) are the only ones that should apply together... not mixed family (dad, uncle, niece, neighbor, aunt).

Fourth, your mom needs to apply FROM HER PLACE OF residence.

Fifth, if all fails... you could apply for citizenship? and sponsor her for a Green Card, she could use that to come here and spend as much as she wants here before she "kicks the bucket"... and it will probably take less than 1 year for her to get a GC once you become a citizen.

I wish you well and success in this endeavor.
