  • Visitor visa return ticket

    Hi all,

My mom is arriving on the 30th march and I have booked a return on the 27th of september. Problem is it is a little more than 180 days standing at 182. What issues will she face at the port of entry?? The max stay that they stamp is 180 days and she has return ticket for 182 days stay. Please let me know.

You know the answer to this ...

... that you need a ticket which is under 180 days.

Also, it finally depends on the total number of days stay allowed on the I94.

If for some reason the officer at POE gives her (hope not), only 90 days of stay, then she has to either leave within that time frame or you need to file for an extension, which in itself may not be a good idea.

    Take care.

Now that the ticket is little overbooked what questions will she be asked?? is it possible that he might stamp her I94 with the return ticket date???

        No ...

... don't worry about that. She just needs to have a return ticket with her. I am sure she won't be asked about the return date, but just in case, one chance in a million, she can tell the officer that the date can be changed as per the allowed stay.

        Take care.

A very similar thing happened to my cousins parents....they were overbooked by 5 days...but the immi officer was kind enuf to call my cousin and tell him the situation and advised him not to file for an extension any longer. He infact stamped the date of departure as their return tkt date....I was hoping that could happen this time around as well ....

                That'll be awesome ...

... but in this case the officer has to see the ticket or know the return date!

                Good luck to you.

I am glad it worked out. But, next time, get a return ticket within 180 days... also, it is never a good idea to stay the entire 6 months... nor to leave on the last day of authorized stay.

                        Agreed!

What happens in case of an emergency at the last moment or the flight delays/cancellations? You automatically overstay and you know the consequences.

                        Think about it.
