  • Canadian tourist visa?

    Hi,
My mom is here in the US to visit for 3 months under B2 visa. We want to visit Canada for a week. However, she doesn't have Canadian visa. Is anybody know if she can apply Canadian visa at the border (Bufallo,NY) ? or does she need to apply the Canadian visa from her country of origin?

There is no hard and fast rule but they prefer you apply at home country.
That said, there is no harm in applying in US, people have been successful
if you can show evidence showing ties to India.

Is return ticket from US to original country good enough as a proof? what other proof of family ties should I bring?

        Peace is right ...

... they prefer that you apply for the Canadian visitor visa in your home country.

Though, you can apply in Buffalo, it's not on the "border". You need to go to the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo, which would be the same thing if you go to NYC also.

Usually they give the visa & the passport the same afternoon.

When I had gone to NYC alone to apply, a while back they told me that they wanted to interview my parents. I told the officer that your consulate is open weekdays, daytime only and it's difficult to bring my parents here just for this interview. They've already got their US visas, so if you wish you can give us the visas to visit Canada, else US is a huge country and we'll limit our travel within United States.

Voila! He gave the visas immediately!

This may not be a generalized experience and things may have surely changed now. It depends on various other factors too, sorry.

        Good luck.

PS: You need the return ticket to your home country to come back into United States. You don't need to show any ties for the Canadian visa.

          Thanks for the replies.
I have one more question. I am in my last step of a green card process & currently I have a travel document. Do I need Canadian visa to enter Canada? or can I use my travel document ?

Only LPR (green card holders) are exempt from needing a visa. You are not an LPR yet, so you will need a visa.
