  • US Passport+India Visa Timeline, for a newborn.

We are expecting our baby this August End/Early September.

I realize that she/he will need the birth certificate, passport, In addition, for India travel, will need the Indian Visa.

I am looking for the timelines of …
Q1A When is the earliest one can apply for the US Passport, and
Q2B when is the earliest one can get the passport?

Q2 What are the types of Indian Visa one can apply for a baby?
Q3a When is the earliest one can apply?
Q3b When is the earliest one can get the Indian Visa ?
Q4 Where does the baby need to be while applying ?

Is there any thread on these lines on www.immihelp.com which may have information/interaction ?

    Thank you,
    best regards
    Sandeep

For our baby due on 31st August, we are looking to travel to India ASAP.
There is possibility that the stay of the baby in India will be more than 6 months.

Thanks for useful info, Immihelp does mention that
PIO card (person of Indian origin) takes 2-4 weeks and
OCI card (overseas citizen of India) takes 3-4 months
; I have following questions regarding this:

Q1 How much approx. time does it practically take for a newborn to aquire US passport after borth?
Q2 How much approx. time does it practically take to get an Indian visa after the US possport arrives (PIO/OCI)? Is baby's original passport required to be submitted for this ?
Q3 Can application for PIO be made as soon as her/his US passport arrives ?

      Following 2 links confuse me:
/foreigner-registration-in-india/ .....................says registration in India for PIO card holder must be done within 14 days of first arrival in India, while
      On the other hand
New ..says registration in India for PIO card holder needs to be done within 30 days of expiry of 180 days.

Q4 Which one would be accurate in my baby's case?

Further, OCI seems to have life long, and I'd like to apply for OCI as well for my baby.
Q5 Can I apply for my baby's OCI from India when she/he is in India ? Is her/his passport required to be submitted in this case ?

Q6 Normally how much overstay would be allowed to baby beyond 180 days for PIO ?

Q7 Considering baby's arrival to be on 31st August, I am also looking for a safe time window to arrange airline bookings to India, any recommendations will be valuable.

      Thank you again.

      best regards
      Sandeep

        For health ....

... reasons, you may want the baby to grow up several months in United States before you take it to India.

        Not a good idea anyway.

I have seen babies fly with me all the time. Some of them look like they just got out of the hospital. But this was domestic though.
