Duration of stay for my parents

I'm on an H4 visa and my parents are going to appear for a visa interview in the last week of May. While filling up the DS-156 i mentioned that the duration of stay is 6 mnths. Is that too long a duration? Should I cancel that appointment and reschedule with a lesser duration.
I'd appreciate it if someone can help me with that.

..for that. Wanted help with another question. My sister and her husband also stay here in the US. However, my husband and I are sponsering my parents. I'd like to know which documents my sister needs to send - like her husband's and her passport copies, marriage certificate, birth certificate, bank statements etc.

If you are sponsoring the visit, your sister has nothing to be sent. They just have to declare both of you are here in US on the DS 156 and your statusus (Not "Stati" though I like this word better)
