B2 VISA Question - Last name and First name are interchanged in the passport

My Father's Last name and First name are interchanged in the passport.
Would this cause any hindrances in acquiring a VISITORS VISA?

I'd suggest he should have it corrected at the passport office before going for the visa.
There is potential for denial for any small discrepancy, so why take a chance.
