Am I allowed to attend job interviews whilst in the United State on a tourist visa?

If so what is the protocal if I am offered a job while there on a tourist visa?

I've heard it is not necessary for companies to "sponser" you anymore, is it as simple as applying for an E 1 visa?

You can attend interviews on visitor visa but changing status upon getting a job while on visitor visa is frowned upon by USCIS if done within 90 days of entry. In general work visas need sponsors.
