b2 visa - name in passport

I am applying for B2 visitor's visa for my parents. My father's name is VASANTHAIAH but in the passport it is VASANTHAIYA, as his SSLC marks card has the latter spelling.
in all his bank documents. employment letters etc. it is VASANTHAIAH.
Now should we get his name ammended in the passport?? or can we just apply with the name as given in passport?

also, my mother's passport has VASANTHAIAH in spouse's name


do you think getting an affidavit saying name both spelling is of SAME PERSON will help??
