  • Frequent visits to US (urgent)

I have read similar threads regarding this issue but I'm still confused and hope someone can give some advise.

I have a B1/B2 visa that expires year 2017. I travelled to the US for the first time using the B1/B2 on March 29th this year and they granted me a 3 month stay. I only stayed for 11 weeks and left the US on June 14th, which means I did not overstay. Purpose of the trip was to visit my aunts in New York and tour the East Coast.

I am planning to travel to New York again on Sept 1st to stay for 3 mths. This time it's to visit my bf and also tour the West Coast as I didn't manage to do so in my first visit.

My question is, is this too soon to enter the US again? I read in your FAQs which says that "people spending 5-6 months for casual stays should wait at least another 5-6 months before re-entering". I only stayed for 11 weeks in my first visit, so do I still need to wait 6 months before re-entering? I'm so confused. And if I am able to re-enter again this soon, do you think they will grant me the 3-month stay?

Fyi, I have the funds to support my entire stay in the US, and am planning to show my bank account slip to the officer at POE to prove that I can support my stay as a visitor, because I'm guessing that he will suspect how can a young lady like me (and unemployed!) can afford so many visits to the US (and tour so many places!).

You will be fine. But depends on POE officer. Do not frequent US for visits without spending more time in your home country. That will make them suspect that you might be a potential immigrant.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

Thanks for your quick reply. So it's safe to conclude that the 2 1/2 month gap (June 14th - Sept 1st) is fine, am I right to say so? Just needed a double confirmation, as I'm very worried

I can't help but feel nervous about my 2nd visit to the US (even though I have no intentions of violating any immigration laws etc, as my purpose is solely for visiting). This is because I am unemployed at my home country at the moment and I am afraid that even proof of financial status (my bank account slip) is not strong enough for the officer at POE to grant me a 3 month stay, because my 1st stay was not too long ago and it was also for 3 months.

This brings me to another question: If my mom comes along with me this time (she also has a B1/B2 multiple entry), does it make my "case" any "stronger"? Because I have heard stories about how immigration officers are usually suspicious of young single ladies (I'm in my mid 20s) who travel to the US alone (furthermore I am unemployed). So I'm wondering if it makes any difference if I'm travelling with a parent this time. If the answer is "No", what documents would you suggest that I show the officer at POE?

Appreciate anyone's advise on this matter. Thanks once again.

        My experience

I was in a similar situation and I was sent to secondary level investigation at POE(though my trips were for business purpose -B1 visa). It all depends on the POE officer as txh1b said. You need not worry. Either they grant you three months of stay smoothly or question you and grant you the time you are requesting (probably with a warning). But this will affect your further travel in future if you are planning to travel frequently. Just my thoughts!

Thanks for sharing your experience, JStone.

Does anyone else have any other comments on this, especially regarding my question about documents to present at the POE, since I am travelling alone (and unemployed)?

          Thanks.

Just from my experience, whenever i travel with my parents they dont ask me anything. When I travel alone I get more questions this is because I am young and single. So better go with your parents. I am not even questioned anything when i travel with them.
