  • Tourist Visa to US apply from Germany

    Hi All,

I'm an Indian by citizen but right now I'm working in Germany for the past more than 6 months with Residence permit/Work permit. Now I wanted to visit US as a tourist for about 2 weeks. Now the my doubt is from where should I apply for a visa?

Is it possible for me to apply for a B2 visa from/in Germany only as I'll not be able to come back to India to apply.

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Suren.M

As you are on WP in Germany, you can apply for the visa from Germany.

      Applying from third countries

In general, Indian citizens can apply for B-1/B-2 visas from third countries like Germany if they have been there long enough on a long-term visa (e.g. permanent residence, work permit or student visa). However it is difficult if not impossible if one is on a short-term business or tourist visa to the third country.

          Hi,

My brother is an Indian citizen working in Switzerland. He had applied for a tourist visa to US to visit me. His interview was on June 19th in Indian consulate in Switzerland. After the interview they told him that his papers have to be sent to Washington DC for further verification and that he would get the passport in a month's time. Since he had to go to Germany within a month he asked them if they could give them a letter saying that his passport was with them or some form of letter so that he could travel. To this they replied saying he can keep his passport and that they will inform him when they hear from DC. In that case he had to come with the passport for stamping or else mail it to them.

Well, it is almost close to two months now and he hasn't got the stamping yet. Whenever he calls the consulate or mails them they say his case is pending and ask him to be patient. He was supposed to travel on Aug 8th Now he has cancelled his flight tickets. But he is hopeful of getting the visa and plans to visit me in December.

My brother was a student in Switzerland for about 4-5 years. He is working there since last one and half years.
I am in US on H4 since last one and half years and my husband is on H1 since 6 years now.

I hope this will be useful to you. I think it is better that you apply well in advance to your travel plans. Good Luck!!

            Applying from third countries

I have some knowledge of what happens in the case of Indian citizens in Canada and UK. You must be knowing the usual stuff about "ties to home country" which is often discussed in this forum. If the person has been in the third country for long enough (say over a year) he should provide evidence of employment (pay slips, letter from employer) and proof that the job is continuing after the person comes back from the US.
In case there is anything weak in the above points, be prepared with evidence of ties in India (property, close family members still in India) for which enough details are given in this forum.
However, do not be surprised if the visa officer tells you that you should apply in India.
You may see the website of the US embassy in Germany (find using Google).
