Sponsor's passport expired, interview in 5 days, urgent.. pls reply

My husband is sponsoring my sister's visa. She has her interview on august 14th in 4 days time. We have already sent the passport copies of my husband's passport along with other sponsor's documents. We just found that my husband'spassport has already expired on 8th july 2008, but we misread it before as mm/dd/yy and thought it would expire on 7th august 2008. Now that mys sister's interview is on thursday and the sponsor's passport is expired in july, please suggest as what we need to do,will that be an issue?

You can apply for a passport renewal in any of the indian consulate in US (hopefully one is closer to your city). Generally the processing time is 10 days but you can pay additional fee for getting it urgently (next day). After that you can scan the passport and send by email or fax it.

Note: Even if it was going to expire on August 7th, you should have renewed it and send new passport copies as interview was after expiry of current passport (August 14th).

Don't worry about your husband's passport, VO need copies of sponsor's passport to verify your sponsor's identity and background. it's your sister who needs to travel and which needs unexpired passport and NOT your husband.

If VO asks about expired passport of your husband, she can say that he applied for renewal but it takes 2-3 months because police verification goes from india to US.

Best option is, get your husband's passport renewal applied, get the receipt, provide copy of this receipt to your sister and she will have no problems in convincing VO that renewal is under process !!!!
