  • Re-Entering USA on Visitor Visa

    Hello,

My mother-in-law has recently visited us in the US and she has just returned back. She has a 10 Year Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. The Immigration officer gave her 6-months of stay when she came here last month. But she was here only for 1.5 months and is now back in India.

We now want to bring her back to US. Is there any restriction on her coming to the US on such short notice ? I believe she can enter as long as she has a Visa. But i wanted to make sure there are no resitrctions. Any info regarding this would be helpful.

    Thanks for your help.

She should wait at least 3 months...

Repeated short visits, with little time in between, is nearly as bad as staying more 6 months in 1 year.

      Thank you for your response.

Is there a legal problem with re-entering US or is this just so we get the visa again. She already has a 10 year visa so that will not be a problem. She might need to come back a couple of times thats all.

I was wondering if the issue with getting re-entry ? will she have a problem at the immigration when she comes back ?

Is not so she gets the visa again in 10 years... it is so she is not red flagged as a potential immigrant and has to be sent to secondary inspection and spend more time at the Immigration Area in the airport under stress.

It is so she has no problems at the POE.

She should stay 3 months at home and come back for 2-3 months if she wants.
