Can parents sponsor their visitor visa

Does it matter if the sponsor is son / daughter or the parents themselves.

Can parents answer " Self" to the question - who is sponsoring your visa - or it has to be " My Son / Daughther " by default

Yes ...

... they can "sponsor" themselves and definitely should in most cases.
