Self Financing Visitor Visa

My girl friend is studying in usa and am studying here in chennai.I wanna go and meet her as a tourist and though she is a student she cant send me the sponsorship papers so i have to go through self financing so how much should i be having for a self financing visa .please help me to get an tourist visa and please mail me the requirements needed to get self financing visa. will be waiting for ur help thank u.
