Mind you, that will sound suspicious to the PoE guy since your purpose was just take an exam.

The most important thing when entering US on a B1/B2 visa is to present your purpose of visit and duration of stay in such a way that
the officer does not doubt your intentions. If you go in may for a test in august, and ask for 6 months, you will be inviting major problems like secondary inspection , lengthy questioning and possible denial of entry.

      So,
Arriving 10-12 days in advance is safe.
Do not ask for 6 months. That can make them suspcious .
When he asks the purpose of visit and duration of stay; just say
to take cs exam and 2 weeks. Must carry a return ticket for 2 weeks.
THey usually give 6 months to first time visitors anyway. You can get the return date changed later for a nominal fee. Just in case he gives you 3 months , the best thing to do would be to take the test and return in 2 weeks. And then go again in sept/oct armed with residency interview letters.

But if you ask for 6 months now, citing the interview reason, he will say how do you know you will get residency interviews when you have not even taken your test yet?
