  • Parents visa rejected as different last name

    Hi,

My parents had applied for a toursit visa B2 at mumbai consulate last week. The last name of my parents is different from my last name. When I turned 18 years old, i took up my village name as my surname and that is on my passport, education degrees etc.

The consular officer initially thought that I am a relative of my father, and not his son. Upon showing proof of my surname change (government gazette copy), he was not convinced and he kept asking my father for the reason my last name was changed. He asked my father this query three times, and my father repeated the same answer saying I adopted the village name as my surname.

Eventually he rejected the visa and gave the 214(b). Any ideas how do we go about differently the second time around?

All your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

214(b) means the reason of denial was not different last names.
