Hi there, My parents are coming to Cincinnati via Chicago from Mumbai. They have to do immigrtaion clearnace at Chicago airport. My question is -

    1) do they have to also take their baggages in chicago & take it too far before they board the domestic flight to cincinnati? - its been a while since i did this?

    2) Can any one please explain the complete process from the immigration stage at chicago till they board the plane for cincinnati from chicago?

    A. Come out of the airport at Chicago airport.
    B. Get in the immgration line.
    C. Get I-94 and passport stamped.
    D. Collect the checked bags.
    E. Pass through the customs.
    F. Check in with the airline, get boarding passes and give bags.
    G. Get into the plane for Cincinnati.

    I hope that clarifies.

As soon as they come out of immigration and collect the bags, just before exiting the secure customs area, they have re-checkin counters(Just before the exit gates) for many airlines in Chicago airport in the international terminal itself. Make sure that they don't walk out of the gate before they checkin. Once they walk out, they will not be let in again and they have to haul the luggage to the domestic terminal themselves.

After they check in the bags there, they can just walk outside the terminal with the hand luggage, take the airport train to the departure terminal of the airline. It is different from the international terminal. They have to go through the security check again before they go into the departure terminal. Ideally, it is suggested that they have at least 3 hrs from the time of arrival of the international flight and the departure of the domestic flight.
