Mom visiting but L1 visa expiring

Hi,

My L1 visa is expring in October of 09, my employer has begun the process of renewing/extending it. My mom is planning to visit me in September 09, if by that time my L1 visa is not extended then can my mom still get a 6 month'e entry to US?

Is it advisable to travel to India when you L1 visa is near termination and the renewal is still in process. I am hearing horro stories about people being denied entry when their visa is near termination.

Any experience/inputs?

That is no problem, as long as you are in legal status all the time.
