  • parents got call from American Embassy

My parents got visitor visa last year for 10 year multiple entry. Today my dad got a phone call from American Embassy, Chennai(since they got their visa from there) saying that they need appear for an interview. My dad has a retaken appointment for coming Tuesday. Anybody has the similar kind of situation or know why they asked them to appear again. Please advise us. It will be very helpful. Thanks.

Only they can tell you why they are calling you for an interview.

My advice would be do as they asked for.

          update

My Dad went to embassy and he was asked few questions and asked to leave his passport and told him it will be returned after 3 weeks. Then he got passport after 2 weeks and when he checked he visa was canceled. Then we cancelled his tickets too(he had a booking to visit us). They didn't gave any information on why they cancelled his visa. What is the best option for us now. I am not sure can we re-apply for him or hire a lawyer and contact the embassy to find why they cancelled his visa. We all ( esp. my kids) are very disappointed because my dad was suppose to be here for my kids Birthday and stay with us for 6 weeks and then go back to India. But he got the call from embassy after booking the tickets. We lost some money to cancel the tickets too. More than that we lost our hopes that my dad will ever visit us.In 2004 he was rejected the visa twice but in August,2008 when we reapplied he got the visa and now it got cancelled after 11 months.I never heard anything like this for anybody. Please advise us what can we do now. He is a government employee and out of 4 daughters I am the only one here. So, he don't have any intentions to settle here. Please let me know if anybody was in the same situation and got the visa later. Thanks for the response.

Was there any misrepresentation of any sort on the visa application?

There was no misrepresentaion at all. At that time I was working so I sent all my employment details along with my husbands. My dad is a Government employee and he had his pay stubs. He had some minimum amount in the bank only that amount he represented in the visa documents. And showed all the properties he had.

At any time the non-immigrant intent can change due to circumstances and status of family members inviting from the US.

This is the first time I am hearing of a case like this.

I think you need to contact your local senator to find more information.

I know visas are revoked sometimes, but calling someone in again after almost a year of them having the visa is unusual to say the least.

You did not get my point. For visitors visa the appliocants should be assumed to be not a potential immigrant. That may have changed. You case is surely strange though, but I can only think of that reason for cancelation.

I agree. This is the first case I have run into with such an outcome. The other similar one was for the F1 student hiring a consultancy to prepare docs.

Whatever is happened is happened. Because My dad has no intentions to settle here and he will not be visiting us in couple more years since he has some more years of service and one younger daughter to get married. But I want to know in future after couple of years or so can he reapply to get a visa or not.Thanks.

                            vponna

Your dad can easily apply after few years or may be this yeat he wants too. but keep in mind if embassy cancel his visa application 2 times in same year then he can not apply for 2 years.

As far as I know why they denied his visa because,

                            * He might had not shown sufficiant fund in his aacount.
                            * He might not answered officers questions.
*Officers asked him so much questions about you and your status and at that he might made a mistake to answered all of his questions.

but best way to come in USA once he gets his retirement or if he shows sufficiant funds or property in his account.
One more thing if he really wants visa then they should apply as a couple.
