Widowed mother rejected visa at mumbi
My mother also applied yesterday. She was asked for sponsership letter. She got confused and gave the letter to the embassy from me. Whereas I think they were expecting I-134.
The officer tore the letter in front of her and said she does not have sufficient documents.
It wouldn't hurt for these guys to give a clue to not-so proficient person in english.

mother's visa rejected
sharmash,
I am sorry to learn about your mother's visa rejection. It is totally rude that he tore down the letter in front of her instead of cooperating and asking her for the correct document. They should show some compassion for the elderly people. There should be some reporting of such instances to their higher authorities. They should not be allowed to treat people like that. What does immihelp say? Any suggestions on the ways we can take it up to higher levels?

Second appointment at Mumbai Consulate
I have been checking online on www.visa-services.com
if any dates open up for my mother to reapply for her visitor visa, but the earliest date it showed was Sept.30. However, y'day my mother went to the consulate personally and got her appointment for Sept.2
If you are short on time, I would suggest the person to go to the consulate directly, and get a date. My mother also said that the person who gave her the date was really nice and tried looking for something earlier in Aug, but Sept 2 was the earliest available. I have approached the senator's office for a letter, and they have said that they will send the letter to the Mumbai Consulate and give me a copy of the letter. Will let the forum know how that goes.

where to go at the embassy
hi there,
I am thinking of reapplying. I was wondering if you could tell me which embassy did she go to. I have my brother staying in mumbai, would he be able to get an appointment date for my mom. Does he have to go to embassy or the VFS?
Thanks,

let me know
Guys,
Let me know if anyone else had any luck getting earlier dates im Mumbai consulate by going in person?
Right now, it is showing dates from October 4th onwards. Is that right? I am not sure if I am looking at the right place because it does not show calendar kind of thing, Just few dates whihc are available. I have been looking at the dates for some time now but I do not see any dates in between. It just keeps moving forward. Thats why I was wondering if I am looking at the right place.
So the sponsorship letter is I-134, right? One of the ppl mentioned here that they attached list of enclosures with that. Id that right. I am sorry, I don't rememevr the person name who said that.
Thanks.

mother's visa rejected second time
Finally, my mother had an intereview this morning at Mumbai consulate. They rejected her visa once again.
This time she was well prepared with all the interview questions and documents. She also had the letter from my boss, who is an Inspector General. I really had high hopes this time because of that letter. However, they never read it. The officer did not even ask her a single question. Just looked at the form, confirmed with her whether her visa was rejected before. She said yes..in March 04, and went on to explain why she thought the visa was rejected that time. He did not let her finish. The translator said it was rejected before and so it is being rejected now. She then asked them to look at my boss's letter and other documents. They did not touch any papers. She pleaded, but the officer sort of warned her through the translator that she better leave or he will have to call the Security. He did and the Security escorted her out.
This is totally outrageous. She felt so humiliated. This is not a way to treat people. She almost cried and told me that she is not going there back again. Anyway, as for me, I am totally bumped out. Don't know what to do! I think because she is a widow, she does not have a chance to come to the US. If I cannot bring her here for visits, I will have to leave the US for good. I am her only son and I cannot leave her alone in India.
Good luck everyone!

this is ridiculous
I am so sorry to hear that vijay
>: theres no reason why the consular had to behave so rudely with ur mom.Isnt there anything that we can do abt those arrogant officers?maybe we should file a complaint against them. They have to get a law that unless theres a very valid reason to reject anyones visa, they cant do so.
did she mention in the application form that she is a widow in the marital status section?
My mom is also a widow and she has an interview next month.hoping for the best.

mother's visa rejected second time
Thanks Preetha for your sympathy. I don't know how to go about filing a complaint against such behavior. It is different if the officer had gave her a chance to listen and then logically decided somehow not to give her the visa. But humiliating someone is not acceptable. I will talk to my boss. I'll see if he can guide me as to what to do next.
Yes, my mom had said that she is a widow and retired on her application. This time she only asked for 2 months visa versus 6 months earlier. Everything else was the same as before except that it was signed by the travel agent as a preparer of the form.

Birth Certifcate
Hi,
My mom is going for the Tourist Visa to Chennai on 31st Mar, 2008. I am in US presently and my brother could able to arrange for the birth certificate. A big blunder, my mom name is blank in the birth certificate as they have prepared the BC keeping in mind my SSC (10th Certificate which doesn't have mom's name, ofcourse). Whether an affidavit from my mom + the birth certificate without my mom name in it, will solve my problem?
My name as per passport First Name: Afroze Last Name : Mohammed
As per the BC certificate Name: Mohd Afroze ( As per 10th Std spellings), whether it will create any problem?
Please suggest me 31st March is approaching .................
Thanks,
Afroze
