  • Can a L1B sponsor B2 before travelling to US?

My Wife is having a L1B with L2 for Spouse and Kid (aged 2years) . We will be leaving by end of September 2009. We would like to take my Mom aged 63years i.e. L1 holder's Mother-in-law along with us, as she is very much needed to take care of my kid. She is a widow, she has 2 daughters and one son (me) all married and living in Chennai with kids.

Now my question is, 1). Can we apply B2 for her, before the L2 and L1 holders (me and my wife) leaves India? 2). Is their any other VISA options to take her along with us? 3). What are the criteria to be fulfilled to apply for the same.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME TO U.S. FOR EVERY1

Thanks for the reply in advance

---Your mom does not qualify for the visitors visa for the reason stated. You need to hire a baby sitter here in the US or she will be considered to be taking an american job away.

---You can apply before even you land in US, but chances are meagre. When you yourself are not settled in a new country, how can you take care of visitors? Thats the thing consular officer will be thinking about most probably.

---You might just get lucky! But even then its recommended to reach the US, set your foot, generate some bank balance and then sponsor any visitor.

Your mom can also apply for a visitor visa. It is not a disqualification because she is a widow. It is unfortunate. Since her children are in India, she stands to get a visitor visa if properly answers to VO's questions. She has ties in her home country. She should self sponsor her visa. Please give proper mock interviews. Best of luck

I also agree with orion that you should first settle in USA and then call your mother and others for visiting you. Baby sitting in USA is not welcome but though many parents / in- laws do.
