Multiple yr visitors visa

1) I have an appointment for my mother @ Chennai in September and wanted to know what is the process to apply for a 5yr or 10yr multiple visitors visa to US? or it depends on the interviewer?

2) If my mother gets a 6 months visa, and if she cannot make it for some reason can we get it extened for another year or so?

RE:

1) We can not apply for particular length of (years of)
visa. once we apply, randomly they will give 6 months or 1 year or 1o years multiple entry.


2) If they issue visa for 6 months, and if that 6 months period is over, we have to re-apply for visa.

For the 2nd question, i understand if the 6 months visa expires you have to re-apply but what if my mom decided she cannot make it within that 6 months and needs to extend for another year or so can she do that?

My question is basically, can I extend her visa before it expires?

Since there are no early appts available I wanted her to go to Chennai and see if she can get a visa and if she does that good but it will be too cold for her in Chicago to come in late Sept or Oct. I was thinking let her get her visa and then plan on extending it to another year or so, so that she can come her next year before the visa expires.

You can not extend it like that. You have to get new one.
