My parent's interview was today and B2 was granted. Thanks to immihelp for all help and direction. I followed immihelp instructions step by step.
My mom and dad went together for the interview. Interview was on Sept 25 at Chennai consulate. They reached Chennai on 24th itself just in case if there is a strike or something. I asked them to stay in a hotel near by the consulate and they did stay in a hotel which is 10minutes walkable distance from the consulate. Interview was at 9:30 in the morning. They reached the consulate at around 9:00.
I divided the documents into three separate bundles - 1. Application package, 2. Applicant Document and 3. Sponsor Documents
Application Package Includes the following:
APPLICATION PACKAGE
1. Appointment Letter
2. Passport
3. HDFC Receipt
4. DS – 156
5. Copy of Applicant’s Passport (first and last page)
6. Copy of Sponsor’s Passport (first and last page)
- My dad got an estimate for the house and property he owned back home from a CA. The CA prepared a document and estimate the value in both Rupees and Dollars. And this document shows both my dad's and mom's name in there
- Then prepared an affidavit of assurance in a stamp paper and notarized. Prepared one for dad and one for mom
-My dad's signature was different on his pension papers and passport. So he prepared an affidavit to show that both signature belongs to him
-My mom's and dad's last names are different so they kept the marriage certificate
Including all the above document, the Applicant Document bundle looks like as follows and I kept a cover sheet for this too
APPLICANT DOCUMENTS
1. Cover Letter - Dad's name & Mom's name
2. Affidavit of Assurance - Dad's name & Mom's name
3. Copy of Asset Valuation Certificate
4. Copy of Fixed Deposit Certificate
5. Copy of Investment Certificate
6. Copy of Pension Book and Statements
7. SB Account Statements
8. Copy of Marriage Certificate
9. Copy of Passport - Dad's name & Mom's name
Sponsor document includes the following and I kept a cover sheet for that bundle as follows:
SPONSOR DOCUMENTS
1. Affidavit of Support (I-134)
2. Letter to Consulate
3. Invitation Letter
4. Bank Account Verification Letter
5. Monthly Bank Statements (last 4 months)
6. Employment Authorization Letter
7. Spouse’s Employment Authorization Letter
8. Copies of Pay Stubs (last 4 pay periods)
9. Copies of Spouse’s Pay Stubs (last 4 pay periods)
10. Copies of W2 Forms (last 3 years)
11. Copies of Spouse’s W2 Forms (last 3 years)
12. Income Tax Return Forms (1040 Joint Return– last 3 years)
13. Copy of Green Card
14. Copy of Passport (all pages)
15. Copy of Spouse’s Passport (all pages)
16. Birth Certificate
I also put index label flags on all documents to show their title.
-My parents are not good in English. So I sent them the translation of the invitation letter too.
-I wrote down all frequently asked questions and their answers based on our scenario and sent to them. My intention was to make them comfortable answering the questions.
I started preparing all these two months before taking the appointment which gave enough time for my parents to go through the documents and get familiarize themselves. When they went for the interview they knew what is I-130 form is for or they were very comfortable providing the appropriate document based on the questions.
When my parents had all the documents in their hand, I used to call them everyday to answer their questions. My dad write down the questions and ask me when I call.
They knew everything regarding myself and my husband such as job title, company name, phone numbers email address, house address yearly salary visa status and all.
Parents know answers for most of the questions. For example, "How many children do you have"?. All parents know the answer. But if they are not prepared, then what happens is when the visa officer asks that question parents got completely nervous and they started thinking that should I tell them I have two daughters and one is nurse. Is that going to affect this whole thing and my visa get rejected and so many questions will fly through their mind. I didn't want this to happen in my case. So I prepared my parents to answer all questions truthfully with confident. I didn't want my dad say one answer and my mom say a completely different answer and screw everything up. My parents were very confident to answer any questions.
Parents visa interview went very smoothly. Following are the questions they have been asked:
1. Where does your daughter stay in US?
2. On what visa did she go to US the first time?
Ans: Student Visa
3. What is her visa status now?
Ans: Green card holder
4. What is she doing there?
5. How many children do you have?
My dad said two daughters (I have a sister too)
6. What is other daughter doing and where is she now?
Ans: My sister is nurse and she is in abu dhabi. My dad said that.
7. Do you have any property here?
My dad said yes I have some land and a house too?
8. How much land do you have?
Then he granted the visa.
For all answers the visa officer said good and while answering the questions he looked at both my dad's and mom's face.
I hope these details help someone in preparing for the interview. That is why a long post.
Once again thanks for all your help
