  • Visitor Visa and then Fiancee Visa?

Hi, I have been friends with woman in the Philippines for around 9 years now. I am an American citizen. I recently visited her in her country, and I believe she could be the one. In the months since my trip, we have talked a lot about the possibility of marriage. We both want it, but she has a lot of apprehensions about leaving her country; and while completely understandable, it is also very concerning to me. I want to know if she can adjust to life here, and be happy here away from her family, IF we do marry.

This is what I am thinking: I want her to visit me first, on a Tourist Visa, where I can try to notice if she likes life here, can live without the constant contact of her family, etc. Also, we can determine if we really want to get married, as well. If so, then I would want to bring her back on a Fiancee Visa, where we have that whole three months to plan and carry out our wedding.

My question is, if she can get a Tourist Visa and come visit me, and everything works out between us, then how difficult would it be to then bring her back on a Fiancee Visa? And why? Are there some limitations?

    Thanks!

While what you are trying to do make sense in civil world, there is no place for it in immigration world.

If the person wants to come to the US as a tourist, get tourist visa.

If you already have the intention to get married to her in 90 days of her arrival, get fiance visa.

But we don't KNOW if we will marry... Aren't there a lot more costs associated with a fiancee visa? I don't want to, no I can't afford to, spend tons of money to bring her here as my fiancee and then find out she is incapable of adjusting to life in this country. Not to mention, the embarrassment from having to tell my family and friends, "never mind, no wedding". This is why I want to "test" her adjustment capacity on a tourist visa; and if she cant adjust, then I didn't waste too much money.
