  • Visitor visa to live with potential fiancé

Hi, I am a US citizen who has a girlfriend in Cali, Colombia. I would like for her to come out on a tourist visa primarily so she can get a feel for life out here and so that I can live with her to see if we potentially will get married. We've spent time together (in Colombia) and would like to progress with our relationship here in the US. We're both level-headed in the sense that, though we love each other very much, getting married just for the sake of making the process of getting her here easier and that getting married BEFORE living with each other are NOT good things to do.

You will probably suggest that a Fiance visa will suit us, however we are not engaged (yet, possibly). Would this be reason enough to obtain, or a reason for rejection, if my girlfriend were to apply for a tourist visa? Plus, would there be any benefit at all if I were to be with her in Colombia the day of her visit to the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá?

    Thanks for your time!

Immigration does not work the way you would like to live your social life.

If she wants to come here with the intention of possibly getting married to you, she will have to get fiance visa. You alerady need to be committed.
There is no trial period concept in US immigration.
