Visitor visa letter

I am planning on inviting a personal friend from China, to come visit me for (2) months this coming summer. I see that if you are inviting a relative, you must send a letter of invitation that can be brought to the local US consulate. Must I also fill out, and send an I-134 Affidavit of support? Please advise.

If the person can show that he can take care of the expenses himself, you don't need to sponsor him. Otherwise, you do.

If you are inviting someone, it is good idea to send an invitation letter.
