flights to Europe are canceled because of the volcano eruption - the person will have to stay for 2 days after I-94 valid-until date.

I wonder -- just because visitors are granted a 3 or 6 month stay on their I-94 do we really have to stay until the very last day? Doesn't ordinary commonsense require that we book our return ticket to leave a few days early so we have some space to maneuver in case of such unexpected emergencies? Is everything in our life so certain that we don't feel the need to put a few days aside as a contingency/backup?
