Can scanned copies be sent from US instead of by courier

Hi Friends,
I heard from one of my friends that we can now send soft copies of scanned copies of the sponsor like documents I-134 ,salary slips , invitation letter, etc instead of sending them by courier . Is it true ? have any of you already sent them and had no problems ?
