  • B1/B2 visa done 4 years back but has not visited yet

    Hello,
I have a question. My B1/B2 visa was done 4 years back but because of some company project related issue, I could not visit US anytime yet. When my wife had appointment at the consulate, the officer asked, even if you husband got visa 4 years back, why has he never gone to US? This time I am going US for business purpose and my wife applying to accompany me for tourism purpose after I finish my business work.

Can this be reason for refusal of visa? Does the officer questioning my visa creditability through this question?

    Thanks

Depends on what you told the first time you successfully obtained said visa. How long was it good for? Can you, if needed, prove that you had legit reasons for not going as intended to (at least what you put down on the visa app 4 yrs back?)

Look at the bright side. You got a visa 4 yrs back and did not use it. So, looks like, unlike millions worldwide, you are not crazy about coming/visiting the US of A. VO should be happy applicants such as you to adjudicate.

      Thanks Bernie for the reply.
I got the Visa through office invitation(I still have the invitation letter copy with me) and I got B1/B2 Visa for 10 years, multiple entry. There is no official mail or something happened to cancel the US trip. It was all because of team change, management decision. How can my wife convince the consulate officer that there was indeed plan to go to US for my husband but because of management decision, it got canceled?

      Thanks

This may seem circuitous but the fact that on a business level (and you have that invite letter handy) 4 yrs ago (10 Yr ME at that) would seem to be enough proof of your bonafides. That you did not make that trip to biz reasons is understandable. Biz plans change all the time. That's what keeps airlines financially afloat. Not the guys flying once in a lifetime to see Disney World.

Now, you want your wife to join you on this new biz trip. You have a visa and your intent to travel on that visa, again for biz reasons, can be documented. So, what is the issue?

Will she get her visa on her own merits, only you know the intent and the docs to back it and convince the VO, notwithstanding your visa situation.

Then again, what do I know. I just use logic and that does not mean anything except if you are on Vulcan.
