  • B2 Visa went from Visa Waiver to In Person Appointment

    Hi,
My mother applied for a B2 Visa back in June 2021 and the system said that she had a Visa Waiver and could drop off the Passport on the appointment date of Sept 20th 2021. In August we got an email saying that the appointment has been canceled as they are not doing dropbox application processing. I called US Travel Docs and they said that I need to keep trying to schedule a new appointment with the same application.

I checked 2-3 times every day since and only yesterday was able to get an appointment for March but this was an in-person appointment with two visits - one for biometrics and a week later for the in-person appointment. On the US Consular General ******** address around a couple of weeks ago he said that they are opening up B1/B2 visas towards the end of November and that people who had obtained a prior US Visa (which we had) would be dropbox cases.

I would much prefer having a dropbox application. What would you suggest? Is there a way to change my appointment to request for a dropbox? Or would I need to cancel current application and hope that the new application gets the Visa Waiver status again with dropbox option. This would mean giving up my current in-person March appointment and hope that the new application is accepted for dropbox and with an available slot before March.

Has anyone been able to obtain new B1/B2 dropbox appointments in the past week or so?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
Which consulate did you get the in person appointment for B2 visa?

    Thanks!

well, you don't get to decide.....only the Dept of State gets to decide. Of course, if you write them and tell them how 'important' you are, they may well drop whatever they are doing and put your mom's case at the front of the line.,......(or not)

If you don't have anything useful to add, then be quiet! Looking at your other posts too it's clear you're trying to ride on a power trip without anything useful to add. Find a hobby if you aren't contributing meaningfully here.

and just when were you nominated as the Grand Poobah of Pubilc Opinion? You have no authority here (nor any experience in the visa world), so I will continue to offer my input, with or without your 'permission.'

Easy for me to offer opinions based on more than two decades of front line experience in the visa world, compared to your zero seconds of similar experience....and so, remind the listening audience again of your purported 'expertise' in this field? That would be none, correct? Offering opinions without knowledge and experience in the area in which you are offering said 'advice' is disingenuous if not dishonest.

Listen tool, I never said I was an expert and not all members here are experts. Most are here to ask questions and share experiences. You on the other hand are a sham who's an expert only in your own mind. Read your nonsense reply again. Like I said, if you don't have anything useful to add, zip it.

once again Mr. Janitor, you do not have any power or authority to command that I do anything you want. 'Zip it'...the sound you hear most often during your daily duties cleaning toilets.

Please stop offending each other. Bostonian, I have the same question but also got a reply on it. When I wrote to the CGI service center, they stated that they have suspended dropbox for B1/B2 and R visa category temporarily. I am not sure if anybody is able to get dropbox appointment anymore.

If there is anyone who was able to get a dropbox appointment then please do post in this thread. It is very important for few members here whose dear ones have disabilities and cannot travel.

bostonian321, pprajapa - I am in the same situation. I see OFC and Consular appointment prompts instead of interview waiver for B1/B2 renewal for my mother. have you had any luck with getting that updated? if so, can you please share the process?
I emailed the ustraveldocs desk last week and got the response that interview waiver is suspended. however, I know from a vlog and US embassy visa fridays responses that the B1/B2 renewal drop box appointments have been opened today (dec 6th 2021). so am concerned why my mother's application is showing OFC/consular pages.

                      Hi Member,
US Embassy India just announced that, "The U.S. Embassy and Consulates across India will resume B1/B2 interview waiver (Dropbox) processing in January 2022. Availability varies by location"
So hopefully you will get the slots for Interview waiver for coming month.

If you still see the same then you will need to check your information and answers you have provided at CGI federal page.
                      All the best.
                      Thanks

like I said, check with the embassy, not posters.
