Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum or if I mix up some of the terminology. Just trying to dig up some info for a close friend. A friend of mine from College is in the country on I believe a greencard. Her family had moved here from Iran something like four or five years ago. Her family's greencard status expired I believe and through circumstances which I'm not completely clear on they wound up moving back. I believe it had something to do with long periods of red tape and they had trouble getting their greencards renewed.
My friend had met the person she believed to be the love of her life during that time. They were married, and have been for a little over two years. Long story short, the guy eventually shows his true colors as a loser and is divorcing her. Her greencard status was relying on the marriage if I understand what she has told me. Now of course she's worried that its going to expire and that she's going to be pulled out of school and deported.
Any information or advice you can suggest on how she can extend/renew her greencard status would be great. She's a good friend of mine, I'd have no problems sponsoring her stay but I'm not sure what that entails or how to go about it. Even if it just buys her time to speak with an immigration lawyer it would be worth it. Forgive me if I missed the info on the website, I'm just trying to save time and some confusion on my part as I don't understand a lot of the forms and references on the site. If somebody can give me a headstart with some info or links that would be great.
