What happens if the airline cancels the flight and it is your last day on I-94

Hi,
My parents are leaving US on the last day on the I-94 date. What happens for any reason like Airline filght cancellation they cannot leave on that day?
Do we have to apply for extension or will that be an illigal stay and will affect their next visit?

It is never a good idea to leave on the very last day. If a flight is cancelled, then the issue of an overstay would still exist.

If you can get a letter from airline regarding cancellation of the flight, the CBP officer during next visit *might* allow them to enter again.
