US visitor visa - exit to canada and re-enter USA

My mother-in-law has come from india on 10 years multiple entry visitor visa to help my wife as she is pregnant. My mother-in-law's I-94 expires in March 2011 but we want her to stay after march 2011 since we needs more help once our baby born. My question is: Can my mother-in-law make an exit to canada on a canadian visitor visa ,visit her relatives who are in canada and make a re-entry to USA within a day ? Will this be a good, safe and viable solution rather to going back all way to India and come back ?
