  • Mumbai consulate - Visa interview in English but parents speak Marathi

    Hello,

I am planning to get Visitor's visa for my mom and dad. They live in Mumbai and speak Marathi. We already have a date for their interview appointment for next year. Due to sparse availability. I am trying to get an earlier date.
They know a little bit of English. Not well enough for an interview for sure. No speaking. Both had education in Marathi. (Accent is a problem while listening)
While scheduling the appointment, I selected English as their interview language since there were no appointments because of COVID and I read somewhere that they can get translators/interpreters. Also read, most interviewers speak common local languages. But not sure if that is true. Is it?
I think, One option is to cancel and rebook the appointment (Risk of losing even the current appointment date). But can't do it with Reschedule option.
I know that we can not change the interview language on the application.
So my question is if there is any way to ensure that they will get a translator on the day. Is there a way we can arrange this in advance?

    Please advise.

The only way to ensure you get a translator is to book appointment accordingly.

Otherwise its VOs discretion to ask fellow applicants to help translate or call local attendants to help (that's all uncertain for availability).

Mostly there won't be much questions to parents, if their passport details (name, DOB, address etc) are matching with what you filled in your visa application forms.
