Parents B2 visa appointment renewal, Father passed away before appointment in April

My parents had their B2 visa renewal drop-off appointment scheduled in April at Chennai US embassy. Unfortunately my father passed away in December. Does anything need to be changed now for the appointment, since my father was the primary applicant? Or is their 2 applications for visa considered separate and it's a group appointment?

My mother got the visa without any issues.
