Hello, I am a resident of the USA and am planning on moving onto a sailboat for some years in the near future. My mother was born in England to an English mother and has a UK birth certificate from 1957. I am of the understanding that I can aquire citizenship through her. I was born in 1990. I would much rather hold a British passport than an American one while traveling abroad long term. Does anyone have any advice. I am considering hiring a lawyer and have talked with UK GIC. Should I continue with them? My mother has her original birth certificate, but doesn’t trust sending it in. Does she need to get a certified copy to send in if she can.
