Independent non-UK remote work while in UK on tourist entry?

US citizen here. I will be spending most of the month of August in the UK as part of an extended trip across Scotland. I do remote independent contracting work from home, working on various projects for a US-based employer. If I work on projects using a laptop while I'm in Scotland, would I be violating the terms of my entry into the UK? The company is American, and the pay is in US dollars into a US bank account.
