  • Student Visa to Portugal

Applying for student visa in another country but I need to go home

I’m applying for a student visa to Portugal, which usually takes one to two months. I’m Filipino and student visa processing is handled by the Embassy of Portugal in Jakarta.

I’m flying from Manila to VFS Jakarta to submit my application documents. https://xender.vip/ But then I realized I’m gonna need to submit my passport as well. How will I be able to fly back to the Philippines without my passport? I can’t stay in Jakarta for two months because I have work and everything. Please help!

    Hello,
This is a tricky situation, but there are a few options you can explore to navigate this:

Request a Temporary Passport or Travel Document: Check with the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta if they can issue you a temporary travel document or an emergency certificate. This would allow you to return to the Philippines while your passport is with the Portuguese Embassy.

Inquire About Passport Return: Some embassies allow applicants to request their passport back temporarily during the visa processing period. You could ask the Portuguese Embassy in Jakarta if they offer this option. You might need to provide a valid reason, such as needing to travel back home.

Use a Valid ID for Travel: If you're traveling within ASEAN countries, some nations allow travel with just a valid government-issued ID. However, this is not always applicable for flights, so confirm with your airline and immigration authorities.

Coordinate with VFS Global: Since you're submitting your documents through VFS Jakarta, reach out to them directly. They might have specific advice or solutions for applicants in similar situations.

Plan for a Longer Stay: If none of the above options work, you might need to consider staying in Jakarta until your visa is processed. While this isn't ideal, it could save you from complications.

    Best regards,
