A few years ago, I spent 3 months in the U.S. on a J-1 visa. During that time, I was paid in cash and didn’t file any taxes since I never received a taxpayer number.
Now I’m planning to go back, but I’m worried this might cause problems with entry. Since I wasn’t officially in the tax system, I’m not sure if it would show up in any records.
Has anyone else been in this situation? Were you ever asked about it at the border? Also, would it be possible to return on a tourist visa without issues? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
